How dare I

– How did you two manage to get there? – Simon asked, getting off the car and holding out his hand to me.

– We walked by feet, then we hitchhiked, – Sveta replied. Simon shook his head and smiled in astonishment. It seemed he’d never met travellers like ourselves before.

– All right, then. Where’s your luggage? – He asked looking around as if he still didn’t quite believe our story.

– Here, these two backpacks, – Sveta answered. – That’s all!

That completely discouraged Simon. All the way home, he was asking us about how we managed to travel such distances, with no transport, no things. And when he found out we were world travellers, he was delighted.

– Linda, Linda! – He shouted out of the window of his car, when we getting close to the house. – Can you imagine, these two travel around the world with two backpacks hitchhiking and they managed to make it to us!

Linda, his wife met us very warmly, fed us with late breakfast and, realising how tired we were, sent us to bed.

Our temporary home was on the banks of the River Tarn, on the edge of the village of Le Riols. Our hosts, an elderly  couple from England, welcomed us and gave us their guest room. That was our first experience of travelling on the Workaway system. We worked, had fun, travelled to the surrounding towns and villages, visited castles and stayed at Simon and Linda’s fellows.

Some days laters when I woke up in the morning, I started to doubt. How dare I live such a life? And was that my own life even?
